[Previous] [Next] [Contents] [Index]

This chapter provides an overview of the software, hardware (where applicable), and infrastructure requirements for Entegrity® NetCrusader™/Web software. It contains the following sections:

1.1 General Prerequisites
1.2 Supported Web Servers
1.3 Supported Browsers
1.4 Commander Prerequisites
1.5 Authentication Prerequisites

NOTE: For best results, do not start installation until you have reviewed this chapter thoroughly.

1.1 General Prerequisites

Before you install NetCrusader/Web, review the requirements listed in this section as well as additional function-specific requirements (Section 1.5 on page 9). Verify these requirements for all web servers that you want to protect using NetCrusader security functions.

Table 1-1 lists the Security Adapter basic prerequisites for Windows® platforms.

Table 1-1: Security Adapter Basic Prerequisites for Windows Platforms

Category Prerequisite
Operating System

This version of NetCrusader/Web runs on the following operating systems:

Disk and RAM Requirements

The Security Adapter requires approximately 3 MB of disk space, which does not include disk space for the web server. Allow approximately double that amount for the actual installation. The installation program needs space to decompress the installation files.

See the documentation for your web server for disk space requirements and RAM requirements. The Security Adapter does not have any special requirements for RAM other than those already required for the web server.

TCP/IP

A domain name must be specified in the Domain field of the DNS property sheet in the TCP/IP Protocol configuration, even if you do not use a DNS (Domain Name Server). For details on this procedure, see the Release Notes shipped with this product.

Security Infrastructure

You must be able to configure into a NetCrusader Security Server (provided by Gradient PC-DCE), version 2.2.x or greater, including Gradient PC-DCE 4.0. For best results, Entegrity recommends PC-DCE Version 4.0.3, which includes speedier configuration.

Additional Requirements

Refer to Section 1.5 on page 9 for additional prerequisites.

1.2 Supported Web Servers

The Security Adapter requires a web server. The following web servers are supported:

1.3 Supported Browsers

Make sure the browser meets any prerequisites necessary for your authentication scheme (see Section 1.5).

This product was tested successfully on the following browsers:

If you want to use Web Single Sign On (WSSO), the browser must support cookies. Browsers that were tested for WSSO include:

1.4 Commander Prerequisites

NetCrusader Commander works within the framework of the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

For Windows 2000 systems, you need Version 1.2 or greater of MMC.

For Windows NT systems, you can use Version 1.1 or greater.

MMC has its own prerequisites. Make sure that your system satsifies those. For example, make sure that you have the correct version of the operating system and the Internet Explorer browser.

1.5 Authentication Prerequisites

Table 1-2 describes prerequisites related to authentication schemes that NetCrusader supports. Satisfy the prerequisites for those authentication schemes that you use.

Table 1-2: Prerequisites for Authentication

If You Want to Use... Requirements
SSL with Basic Authentication

A certificate for the server.

SSL with Client Certificates

A certificate for the server and a client certificate for the browser.

For an overview of certificates, see the NetCrusader/Web Overview Guide. For an overview of obtaining certificates, see Section 2.5 on page 14.
