5 — Authorizing Users

[Previous] [Next] [Contents] [Index]

This chapter describes how to force NetCrusader authentication. It includes the following section:

5.1 Creating Users and Groups
5.2 Setting Permissions

5.1 Creating Users and Groups

The groups and users you refer to in the ACL model file must exist before you call InitModel. Use NetCrusader Commander to create the groups and the users who belong to the groups.

Banking Example

In our banking application, we have groups customer, service, and teller. We created these groups using Commander. Then we created users and placed the users in the appropriate groups.

For information on creating users and groups, start Commander and access the online help.

5.2 Setting Permissions

The object you create must have the NetCrusader execute (x) permission to run on ASPs. Typically you grant the permission to the directory containing the object. The object inherits that permission.

To force authentication of users who access your initial ASP, remove r and T permission from the ACL entry for unauthenticated users.
