DIAL-UP TCP/IP SUPPORT
(263GR 21-Sep-1998)
Entegrity NetCrusader and DCE products require a TCP/IP transport service
for communication between systems. This TCP/IP service would typically
offer support for both TCP (connection-oriented) and UDP (connectionless)
protocols so that the software can be configured to use one or the other
protocol if necessary.
Entegrity limits the TCP/IP services it officially supports to those
we have tested thoroughly. As a result:
- PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) services (including the popular Microsoft
Remote Access Service) have been confirmed to work properly and are
fully supported by our DCE and NetCrusader products. However, you may
have to set a configuration argument (mru=) on the server side to a
value of 1500.
- Although you may find that SLIP (Serial Line Interface Protocol) services
work as well, they remain unsupported by Entegrity at this time.
In addition, DCE requires the ability to send packets of size 1K bytes
over the network. This is usually not a problem in typical LAN environments
but we have seen instances of dial-up TCP services that do not support
packets of this size and which cannot be configured to do so.
