ENDPOINT MAPPER CAUSES PROBLEMS (NT 4.0) (252GR 16-Jan-1998)

A problem with the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 endpoint mapper can cause WebCrusader servers to appear to hang. Connect Client and Commander are not able to connect to the server and the server takes a very long time to shut down. This problem can also degrade the performance of dcecp and acl_edit.

The problem is caused by the Microsoft endpoint mapper (rpcss.exe) entering a bad state after several hours of operation, which causes problems with UDP (User Datagram Protocol). Entegrity has filed an official defect report with Microsoft regarding this problem.

The workaround is as follows:

1. Make sure PC-DCE version 2.001 (or later) is installed on the server system.

2. Open the System control panel applet.

3. Select the Environment tab.

4. Add the System Variable RPC_SUPPORTED_PROTSEQS and assign it the value ncacn_ip_tcp.

5. Reboot the system.

6. If you have not already done so, configure PC-DCE.

7. Configure the WebCrusader server.
