Configuring DCE or DFS Clients on Sierra Cluster 2.0, Caution
(402GR 17-May-2002)

Before configuring DCE or DFS clients on Sierra Cluster 2.0, be sure to refer to Section 9.4 of the Compaq Alpha ServerTM SC 2.0 Installation Guide).  Follow that guide to make the local /tmp directory available before you attempt configuration (with dcesetup or dfssetup).

The availability of the local /tmp directory affects the following configuration steps in the NetCrusader/DCE:

  • Installation and Configuration Guide, section 3.3.2.
  • Distributed File Service (DFS) Configuration Guide, section 2.4

(Versions of these manuals on the Entegrity Solutions Support Web have been updated.)

EXPLANATION

The DCE and DFS cluster client configuration rely on the local /tmp directory of the machine being used for configuration to be available to all cluster members.

Sierra Cluster 2.0 changed the way that local filesystems are served to other machines within the cluster. This affects the cluster client configuration in dcesetup and dfssetup.

If the /tmp directory is not available, the client configuration will succeed on the machine on which you are running the script, but not on other cluster members. An error message will appear during the configuration process, similar to the following:

Configuring Cluster Member: member1
member1: Cannot find configuration file
/cluster/members/member1/tmp/rmdce.cfg
member1: Configuration not done, exiting.
member1

The configuration script will produce similar output for all of the cluster members, then complete.
