Chapter 1 —

DCE URC Product Overview

1.1 Introduction

AssureAccess is a security solution that provides authentication, single sign-on, authorization, and audit services for eBusiness, Portal, and J2EE environments, allowing centrally managed, enterprise-wide, policy-based security.

Using the AssureAccess DCE User Repository Connector (URC), you can connect to existing DCE environments without costly migration, copying, or moving of your security data.

1.2 User Repository Connectors

An AssureAccess application can use multiple authentication providers to gather information from multiple user repositories.A user repository is an external data store containing the native attributes of users. Examples include LDAP, JDBC-compliant databases, Windows domains, and custom data stores. One of those custom data stores is the DCE Security Server.

User Repository Connectors are interfaces to the supported authentication providers. URCs are defined within the domain hierarchy, allowing business logic to determine how authentication providers are employed. An example is the ability to associate application layers with different security levels. By partitioning the information within domains, access to some resources might require native Windows logins, while access to others may require PKI authentication, and access to others based on attributes stored in DCE, and so on.

The DCE URC runs on the same machine as AssureAccess, with at least an underlying DCE runtime client.

Figure 1-1 shows where the DCE URC fits in the AssureAccess architecture.

With the DCE URC, the DCE Security Server becomes just another type of authentication provider in the AssureAccess environment.

1.3 Licensing

The DCE URC requires an electronic license. Entegrity issues two types of electronic licenses: Permanent and Evaluation.

Permanent licenses do not expire. Evaluation licenses are valid for only a limited period of time. In each case, the product is the same fully-functioning version; the license type limits only the length of use.

In addition to a license for the DCE URC, you also need licenses for:

If you need licenses, contact Entegrity Solutions Sales (sales@entegrity.com) or Support (support@entegrity.com). If you need information on using licenses, Support can answer your questions.
